The Fates We Tame by Scarlett Cole, writing as S. Cole is live!
OMG, this book! A dark, exciting, emotional and beautifully romantic story with a grumpy/sunshine fake marriage, amnesia and a warring family all set within an MC world that I cannot get enough of. I knew Switch’s story was going to be a big one, and this book owned me. From beginning to end I was absolutely hooked, and I loved every single freaking moment of this story!

From USA Today best selling author Scarlett Cole, writing as S. Cole, comes an electrifying amnesia, fake marriage, MC vs Cosa Nostra romance.
Sophia
No one knows why I crashed at high-speed driving a car that wasn’t mine.
Except when I woke up in hospital, I had life-changing injuries and no memories at all.
Amnesia makes you a ghost in your own life.
I’m here, but not. I have a family whose names I keep forgetting and an apartment I don’t remember choosing.
But I’m alive, and determined to make the most of this second chance.
Which is why when the grumpy biker arrives at the rehabilitation unit, I’m determined to become his friend. Until the family I’m beginning to trust betray me in the worst possible way.
And I can’t help but wonder if escaping what they had planned for me was the very reason I ran.
Switch
Getting devastatingly injured while saving the life of a brother in the Iron Outlaws Motorcycle Club was a trade-off I’d make again in a heartbeat.
Even if I’m now a changed man with permanent damage who can’t remember the last decade of their life.
Life is uncertain and holds little joy.
Until I meet a bundle of sunshine in rehab who has no memories at all.
Seeing her every day makes life better.
But then I overhear her brothers plotting something terrible, so awful, that it requires me to become the feared biker I once was to help her.
I believe in fate. That the two of us meeting like this was no accident.
Now, I need to believe in myself to get the two of us through this alive.

“You’re meant to be here with me right now. We’re supposed to be on this path together at this very moment … None of this could possibly be a mistake.”

At the end of the last book, The Souls We Claim, Switch was grievously injured. When we meet up with him again, he’s in rehab for a head injury which has left him with significant side effects, most notably, he has no memory of the previous ten years. Sophia is in the same rehab facility following a bad car accident which left her with no memory at all. She is a ball of sunshine compared to Switch’s broodiness, but the two of them share a connection, and when she is there for him when he hits a low point, he becomes fiercely protective of her. The twist is she’s the youngest daughter of the head of the Sicilian mafia, sworn enemies to the Iron Outlaws. When Switch overhears that she’s in danger (from her own family, no less), he immediately jumps in to save the day, offering to marry her for protection. With few other options, and feeling the same attraction that Switch is, Sophia agrees, and we dive into the most fantastic fake marriage set-up.
I say “fake”, but it’s really not. There are feelings there from the start, and to go along with all of the grin-inducing “my wife” talk, from the very beginning, Switch and Sophia throw themselves into their new life together.
“No one is going to take my wife.”
Sophia smiles. “I like the way you say that.”
“Say what?”
“‘My wife.’ Like it means something.”
I run my knuckle down her cheek. “Because it does mean something. I’ve never had a wife before. Might be kind of fun to try and make her fall in love with me.”
OMG, I love these two together! They have been through so much, been so close to death and lost so much, that they’re embracing the second chance they’ve been given and are following their hearts. They’re honest with each other about everything, they know to find happiness in the little things, and they latch on to each other and let their feelings fly, and I freaking loved it!
“I want to go see the world, Theo. Can we go sometime?”
“You ask me with that look on your face and that wistful tone to your voice and I’d move heaven or hell to make it happen.”
Switch is the most amazing hero. Of course, he’s a badass biker (and more than a little bit filthy), but he’s sweet, caring, and super protective. He opens his heart so beautifully, and the way he cares for Sophia is so swoony, and I just adored him.
“I see you. I really fucking see you. And I want to be the man who is there by your side as you step back into the obvious power you had. Whatever that looks like now.”
And it turns out Sophia is quite the badass herself. Though she has this sense of vulnerability about her as she experiences all the things for the first time, she’s fierce and fun, and I loved her so much. They are a fantastic match, and I could not get enough of these two together.
“We’re both a bit broken, Soph. Let me see the broken parts of you, and I’ll share the broken bits of me with you too. Maybe our broken pieces will fit.”
Their story unfolds at a dangerous time for the club, which brings some action and a nice intensity to the story. Sophia’s family obviously bring drama and danger, which brings out not only Switch’s protective side, but also a whole heap of badassery. There’s lots of time spent with the MC boys and their girls, and I loved seeing the dynamics at play as Switch returns to the fold, but with slightly different priorities now. It brings some conflict, but I enjoyed watching it all play out, and loved seeing so much of the characters from previous books.
But for me, as always, it was all about the romance, and it’s so freaking good. Sweet and swoony, wildly sexy and a bit kinky, Switch and Sophia are there for each other, and guide and support each other through healing and finding their place again, and they are absolutely beautiful together.
“Does it always feel this good, Theo? From what you remember.”
“Sex?”
I place my hands on either side of his head and force him to look at me. “No. This. You and me. How good it feels to be a little reckless. To fall madly.”
… “Never.”
Scarlett Cole continues to rock my world with this series. Every book makes me fall harder, and I cannot wait for Vex’s story which will finish up the series.
Such a fantastic read, and a fave for 2024.
5 stars.

Meet the Author
The tattoo across my right hip says it all really. A Life Less Ordinary. Inked by the amazingly talented Luke Wessman at the Wooster Street Social Club (a.k.a. New York Ink). Why is it important? Well, it sums up my view on life. That we should all aspire to live a life that is less boring, less predictable. Be bold, and do something amazing. I’ve made some crazy choices. I’ve been a car maker, a consultant, and even a senior executive at a large retailer running strategy. Born in England, spent time in the U.S. and Japan, before ending up in Canada where I met my own, personal hero – all six and a half feet of him. Both of us are scorpios! Yeah, I know! Should have checked the astrological signs earlier, but somehow it works for us. We have two amazing kids, who I either could never part with or could easily be convinced to sell on e-bay.
I’ve wanted to be a writer for a really long time. Check through my office cupboards or my computer and you’ll find half written stories and character descriptions everywhere. Now I’m getting the chance to follow that dream.
