The fourth book in the Laurel Snow series, Rebecca Zanetti delivers another exciting ride as genius FBI Special Agent Laurel Snow goes on the hunt for a new killer… this one hitting close to home.
Women are being brutally murdered in the Pacific Northwest, and Laurel Snow is on the case. But in a chilling twist, the identities of the deceased women have a connection to Laurel, and her loved ones are being targeted. And with most of her team out of town, an escaped killer on the loose, her father back in town, her sociopathic sister hanging around, and her boyfriend, Fish and Wildlife Captain Huck Rivers, being set-up as the killer, there’s a personal edge to this one. It’s another exciting ride, written primarily from the POV of neurodivergent genius, Laurel, and I loved being inside her head as she hunts down the killer.
By her side, as always, is Huck, and the two of them are so good together. Despite their differences, and Huck’s overprotective tendencies, they are equals in every way, they respect each other deeply and rely on each other’s skills, and they’re a great professional team. Personally, they are together, happy and figuring out their future. It’s not all uber-romantic and swoony, but their relationship is strong (and a little bit sexy), and they are wonderfully functional. The romance is definitely in the background though.
This series is definitely mystery/suspense/thriller, and this one kept me guessing all the way through. It’s exciting and mysterious, and the ending had me madly flipping pages, with lots of twists and surprises that had my heart racing.
Though each book in this series sees Laurel working on a different case, there is some significant relationship development and build-up with side characters through the series, so I would suggest reading these ones in order.
This is a great read.
