An exciting and unpredictable vampire romance that is sexy, smart and well-developed, I devoured this book!
I love Elizabeth Hunter’s multiple Elemental series, and loved diving back into her vampire world! Oleg Sokolov appeared as a side character in the Elemental Legacy series, but I honestly don’t remember much about him from that series. This book can easily read as a standalone – set within the same world, yet there is good world building and no real reference to Hunter’s other books, so you can safely dive on in.
Oleg is an ancient and powerful fire vampire who controls a portion of Eastern Europe. His vampire ‘daughter’, Zara has gone rogue, stealing from him and shacking up with an enemy, and he’s on a mission to bring her back under his control.
Tatyana is a human bookkeeper who worked with Zara. She has no idea about vampires, or the fact that she was working directly with one, but when she approaches Oleg and offers to track down his missing money, she gets dragged into a world she had no idea existed, and she’s got a massive target on her back.
It’s a great set-up, and I was quickly sucked in to Oleg’s world and Tatyana’s introduction to all things vampire. But what really got me excited is the fantastic sexual tension between the two of them. There is an attraction there, and though there are many complicating factors standing in their way, the chemistry is irresistible, and I loved the build-up and the awesome sense of anticipation that you’re on the verge of something epic.
“I would enjoy seducing you.”
It’s steamy (literally), but the love story is a definite slow burn. It’s sexy and intense, and though there is romance, it’s not fully there yet, but I was still completely invested, feeling it all and enjoying every moment of the chase.
“You are mine,” he whispered. “I am patient. But you are mine.”
It’s a great ride, and there are some unexpected surprises along the way. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it’s not too painful, and I am fully invested and excited to go where the story goes from here when the series continues.
I loved it – 4 stars.
