Blurb
One cold December day, two men are blindsided by a hockey trade; one is the most decorated goalie in the league, while the other one is the youngest coach in the majors.
Jethro Hale is the last player Coach Clay Powers wants to see on his roster, but the G.M. pulls a fast one. And it’s not like he can even explain why. Nobody knows about their love affair fifteen years ago.
Cue the all-star awkwardness, the painful memories and the reawakening of deep feelings on both sides.
Unfortunately, their attraction still burns brightly. But it can never be. A player and a coach? The scandal would overshadow the team’s banner year.
If only they could resist each other…
If you love grumpy heroes, high stakes hockey, struggling single parents and smoldering kisses, grab your copy of The Last Guy on Earth.

Book #3 in the Hockey Guys series, Sarina Bowen takes us back to Denver for a second chance m/m forbidden sports romance that is sweet, sexy, and lots of fun.
Jethro Hale is a successful and well-respected goalie in the NHL, and his world is rocked when he is unexpectedly traded to Denver in the middle of the season. He packs up his life, his father and his deeply unhappy young nephew (who he has custody of) and moves to his new city only to learn that his new coach, Clay Powers, is just as blindsided by the trade, and is equally unhappy that Jethro is now on the team. What nobody else knows though is that Jethro and Clay were roommates and teammates 15 years ago, and that they had a scorching yet ill-defined relationship that ended badly. Now, they’re back in each other’s lives and their attraction still sizzles, but neither of them want to go back there. And even if they did, a relationship between a coach and his player is strictly forbidden. So, we get treated to tension-filled encounters as their mad chemistry continues to sizzle
I look away from that face I know so well. The one I still see in my dreams sometimes. How do I coach this guy?
There’s no rulebook for this.
The story moves between the present and the past, so we get to see what happened between them so long ago, which I really appreciated because it was a complicated situation that explains so much about the difficulties between them. There’s a lot to untangle, and despite their animosity, Jethro and Clay have no choice but to work together, and their time together leads to them clearing the air, growing close again, and finally facing up to their feelings.
“I would have given you everything”
Their attraction in the present is a whole new world compared to their muddy past. Jethro, in particular, is owning up to the mistakes he made and he is a man determined to make amends, prove that he’s trustworthy and win the heart of the man that he feels so much for. They’re older, wiser, and not holding back on what they’re feeling anymore, and I loved that! It’s hot and steamy, but also sweet and fun, and I loved how they recaptured their easy and natural friendship, and so much more.
But they have challenges to face – first and foremost the fact that they aren’t actually allowed to be together, but they’re also managing family dramas and the dynamics of the team in the fast-paced hockey world. It’s a fun ride, and I was right there with these two as they navigate it all, while falling hard for each other all over again.
It’s a great journey with a gorgeously happy ending, and I loved this one.
4.5 stars!
I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Teddy Hamilton and J.F. Harding, and they do a great job with it. I really enjoyed listening to this one.
