This is such a gorgeous little read! At just 82 pages it’s a short story, but it packs a big punch with great characters, a fun set-up and a gorgeously fun and flirtatious romance.
Charlotte and Seth are neighbours who get stranded in their second-storey apartments for the weekend when the stairs on their building are accidentally demolished. Both keen for some quiet time, they turn down the offer of help to stay put and enjoy their isolation. They hang out, talk, laugh and joke, and over the course of the weekend, they reveal a lot about themselves and find themselves falling hard.
I felt like we were on some epic twenty-four-hour first date. It wasn’t a date, of course. It was just a weird circumstance that we found ourselves in that she was probably just making the most of.
I was afraid to imagine it was more than that.
It was definitely more than that for me.
Even in such a quick read, I felt so much in this little story! We get to know Seth and Charlotte – their struggles and their lives, and I felt everything along with them as they open up to each other so beautifully.
“Sometimes the start of something good begins during something bad … We don’t get to pick when these things happen.”
Most of the book is the ‘getting to know you’ stage, which is full of flirtation and a wonderful sense of anticipation. There’s just the perfect amount of romance to make it feel realistic, and an epilogue which gives us a glimpse into the future and nice closure.
I loved this little story.
