I freaking love this book!!!

It actually reminded me of a Kristen Ashley book. High praise indeed, but it had all of the key elements – a fantastically sassy heroine and a badass Alpha hero who fall hard for each other, a cast of brilliant side characters, a heart-meltingly beautiful romance, seriously hot sexy times, humour, action, and a storyline with OTT elements that somehow all just works, and is one big pot of awesome 🙂

Marie has escaped an abusive husband and taken refuge with her brother, Jeff. She discovers that Jeff is working with a group of bikers when one day, quite unexpectedly, they all come roaring up the driveway.

“It didn’t occur to me that I was glistening with sweat and wearing a bikini top until they turned off the bikes, pulled off their helmets and turned to scope me out. To make my own personal cliché perfect, Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar On Me blasted through the radio. I winced – I must look like a white-trash princess from hell, basking outside my trailer in a bikini to outdated butt rock.”

One of those bikers is Horse (as in ‘hung like a…’), a gorgeously hot, tattooed, long-haired, muscled biker, and the two of them have an instant, sizzling attraction. There is very smutty flirting and banter, and the two of them start to establish a relationship of sorts as they get to know each other and the big, tough biker reveals his sweet side.

“I’ve never ridden a bike before.”
Horse leaned over and gave me a quick kiss on the mouth.
“Lookin’ forward to being your first, babe.”

However when he tries to offers her a place in his life at the Motorcyle Club, she misunderstands, freaks out, and everything falls apart.

Then when Jeff gets himself into trouble, the only way she can save him is to accept Horse’s proposal that she become ‘collateral’ for the Club, and become his property. She accepts to save her brother, and this is when the fun begins. Marie is smart, funny and feisty, and not afraid to stand up to the big, badass biker, but she gets a massive wake-up call when she is introduced to the world of the Motorcycle Club, and comes to understand the dark and violent lifestyle that Horse lives.

I’m going to out myself right here and say that I am absolutely in love with Horse! He’s rude, crude and arrogant, and 100% Alpha. He is used to women falling all over him, and Marie’s rejection hurt. But it all creates a brilliantly explosive dynamic between them as he finally meets a woman who isn’t afraid to throw sass and won’t fall immediately into his bed. Marie rocks an attitude, it infuriates him, but he loves it! There is banter and some epic arguments as Marie and Horse take each other on. But he is one persistent biker, and is not about to give up on what he wants.

“Someday I’m going to own all of you, Marie. You’re all mine, babe. Knew it the first time I saw you. Couldn’t give you up if I tried.”

And there is hotness… oh my God, there is hotness!!! Steaming piles of hotness! And it’s awesome! But underneath it all, you can see that Marie and Horse truly care for each other. And despite all of his dirty talk, Horse is gorgeously protective of his girl and can definitely bring the swoon!

“I want you to be my old lady, babe. That’s all I have to offer. I’m a Reaper, and this is my world. You wear my patch, you be my woman and I’ll be your man. We take the good times together and fight through the bad times. No games. That’s everything I’ve got and it’s all yours if you’ll take it.”

I love the explanation of the life of a Motorcycle Club. Particularly what it means to Horse to be a part of the Club, and his explanation of what it means to be an Old Lady, and the honour and commitment that it represents. The Club was like a huge family that took care of each other, made up of a fantastic group of badass bikers and their amazingly strong and sassy women. And the way that they enfolded Marie into their midst was gorgeous.

The story is told primarily from Marie’s POV, and she is a wonderful narrator. I loved being inside of her head as she encounters entirely new experiences, and is so accepting of her new life as she tries to make sense of it all. But the awesome goes off the charts when we start to get Horse’s POV thrown in as well – it’s not a major part of the book, but what we get from him shows us exactly what we want to know.

There are some major ups and downs for Marie and Horse (and I even shed some unexpected tears), but they are both committed and willing to work for their HEA, and thank God, they actually communicate! There is some stupid, but it is minimal. And it’s all finished off brilliantly with a bit of an epic ending, and an epilogue that had me laughing and swooning – big time. It was such a fantastic reflection of the characters, and a perfect finish to the story.

I absolutely loved it and read it in one sitting, unable to put it down. I can’t wait for more action from the Reapers!

5 sensational stars.
