Another fantastic addition to the Night Huntress series!
Rereading this series is just reinforcing how much I absolutely love it! The paranormal world is not as intense as in other series, but it’s a perfect setting, allowing the absolutely sensational bunch of characters to shine. They are fantastic on their own, but together they create an incredible dynamic which drives the series, and I cannot get enough of it!
Bones has now joined cat in her work for a special branch of Homeland Security – helping her lure and kill evil vampires. And with the two of them working closely alongside Cat’s loyal team of badasses, there is heaps of bantering, teasing and power plays amidst all of the action.
The main danger comes in for the form of somebody from Bones’ past whose ruthless search for vengeance puts Cat and Bones directly in the firing line – leading everybody to war. And with knife fights, graphic torture, gun slinging, fireballs, zombies, and even a bit of black magic, the whole gang comes together to help out, and not everybody makes it out alive.
As always, Cat and Bones stand firmly by each other’s sides through it all. There are some really gorgeous moments for them, as well as a bit of sexy time, and their love is as strong as ever.
“I love you, Kitten. There’s nothing on this earth or under it that can change that.”
A lot of my favourite moments from the series appear in this book, including violent and bloody closure on one of the storylines left over from the last book, big changes for Tate and Juan, naked nightmares, a surprise hook up (“all hail the dragon slayer!” – LMAO), more political happenings with shifts in vampire alliances, the introduction of the deeply fabulous Vlad to the series (love him!) and some terrifying and devastating shocks that make this quite an emotional read at times.
The combination of the action, romance, laughs and drama, as well as the fast pace of the story, make this book a rollercoaster ride that is hard to put down.
Absolutely fantastic, these books just get better and better! 5 stars.
