4 ‘Vlad is awesome’ stars.
Book 2 in the Night Prince series. These books are a spin off from the Night Huntress series, which is one of my all-time favourite PNRs. Vlad is THE Vlad – the legend that became Dracula, and this book continues on from Once Burned. It’s been a while since I’ve read the first book, and I enjoyed a reread before diving into this one and I’m so glad I did because I’d forgotten so many of the details, and I think I would have been a bit lost otherwise.
Vlad and Leila are back, but there’s trouble in paradise. After their hot and fiery introduction, they developed a deep connection and became lovers, but Leila has completely fallen for the arrogant, sexy and dangerous vampire even though he told her he’d never be able to return her feelings. Distraught that she can’t have Vlad the way she wants him, she is also struggling to reconcile the Vlad that is her lover with the brutally ruthless ‘Vlad the Impaler’ that is still very much a part of him, as well as dealing with an over-protective Vlad and the loss of her psychic abilities and what that means for her and her relationship. Phew, it’s all happening!
I really like Leila. She’s strong, stubborn and brave, and feisty as all hell, and she’s a great match for someone like Vlad. And I love that she’s prepared to walk away from the man she loves in order to protect her heart and her self-respect. But when she is struck by tragedy yet again, she discovers that her life is in danger from a mysterious bad guy and she is left wondering who she can trust . Of course, Vlad dives in to the rescue once again, and this time he is not prepared to let her go.
“You should be afraid. Very afraid. Before, I told you if you wanted to end things between us, I would let you go, but, Leila” – his voice deepened – “I lied.”
I love reading about an arrogant alpha meeting the love of his life, and after hundreds of years, Vlad has finally fallen for his, and Vlad in love is a wonderful thing to see.
“I love you, Leila, nothing else matters.”
Of course he is ridiculously possessive and protective, but Leila is also a force to be reckoned with and I love that she has the strength to stand up to him. Their clashes are sensational! And with Vlad finally offering Leila everything that she’s wanted, there’s a nice amount of romance, and a whole lot of sexy time!
He’d wanted all of me and that’s what I’d given him. Did that mean I had nothing left?
“No,” he muttered, voice thick with passion. “You have me, and I love you.”
Leila and Vlad now have to work together to discover who is betraying them to their enemy, while working to uncover a mystery and fighting to keep Leila alive. It’s an exciting ride, and I loved every moment of it!
There are some huge game changers in this book, and I was shocked and excited with every twist and revelation. The action is fantastic, the mystery kept me guessing, and the humour and romance blend brilliantly with the story as it all unfolds. And through it all, Vlad’s arrogance never waivers, and never ceases to make me laugh.
“You can’t expect my blessing on this disastrous mistake.”
The words were directed at me, but Vlad responded.
“I wouldn’t insult you by asking. We both know you disapprove and we both know that I don’t care. Leila’s opinion is the only one that matters and she said yes.”
This is a great continuation of Vlad and Leila’s story. It ends on a bit of a cliffy, and I’m excited to continue on with the next book.
I loved it – 4 stars.

These books are a spin from the Night Huntress series. This series is one, continuous story and obviously these books need to be read in order, but they fit in after book #6.5 of the Night Huntress series (with the first two books taking place before book #7).
